The Camry's sourcing question is rarely which V6 — it is whether the car is conventional or hybrid, because those are entirely different powertrains.

The Camry has been offered continuously with a four-cylinder, a V6 and a hybrid powertrain, and it is one of the highest-volume used engine requests in the country. Donor availability is excellent.

The decisive fork is hybrid versus conventional. A hybrid Camry uses an Atkinson-cycle engine integrated with a hybrid transaxle, inverter and battery. The engine is not a standalone component in the way a conventional engine is, and a conventional engine of the same nominal displacement is not a substitute.

Within the conventional line, the generation matters because Toyota revised both the four-cylinder and V6 during the Camry's run — including the move to direct injection on the V6. Engines that share a displacement across a revision are not automatically the same part.

  • On a hybrid, diagnose before buying. Symptoms that feel like engine failure are frequently transaxle, inverter or battery problems, and an engine purchase does not solve those.
  • For V6 requests, confirm FE or FKS. The injection difference changes the fuel system and controls.
  • Ask about timing chain condition on higher-mileage four-cylinders — serviceable, but it belongs in the installed cost.
  • If offered an imported engine, confirm the source market so sensors and emissions hardware match your car.

Engines and transmissions ship freight on a pallet, not by parcel carrier. Most deliveries are curbside to a commercial address, so a shop or a business with a forklift is the smoothest destination. Residential and liftgate delivery is usually possible and is quoted separately because it costs more.

Transit time depends on the source location and your destination, so it is confirmed on your written quote rather than promised in advance. Ask your specialist for the expected transit window before you commit — it is part of the quote, not an afterthought.

Inspect the pallet before you sign for it. Note any visible damage on the delivery receipt at the moment of delivery; a clean signature makes a freight claim substantially harder to pursue.

Is a 2GR-FE the same as a 2GR-FKS?

No. The FKS is direct-injected, with the associated fuel system and control differences. Both are 3.5L V6s and they are not interchangeable parts.
